About

Morendat Institute of Oil & Gas (MIOG) is one of the Centers of Excellence created to offer capacity building to support the Northern Corridor Integration Projects (NCIP). The Institute offers competency based training in Oil & Gas Pipelines Management, Operations and Maintenance to develop human resource capacity for Kenya and the region. The curricula used were developed by experts in line with the Competency Based Education and Training (CBET) and is so far the only competency based curricula approved by the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA) in Kenya.

The setting up of the oil and gas school was a brainchild of the presidents of Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda and South Sudan during the 3rd Heads of States Summit held in Kigali, Rwanda, on October 28, 2013 during which member states agreed that centres of excellence for capacity building be created in order to support the Northern Corridor Integration Projects (NCIP).

MIOG is fully owned by Kenya Pipeline Company Ltd (KPC) and its establishment was in line with the company’s Vision 2025’s aim of setting up an oil and gas investments hub in the region, therefore entrenching Kenya as the gateway to East & Central Africa. The Centre is the only oil and gas institute in the region and the third in Africa after Sonatrach in Algeria and Transnet in South Africa. KPC is best placed to offer the training due to the already available infrastructure and relevant human resource capacity.

The Institute is currently running five main CBET courses as well as other short courses. Each of the CBET courses has various units of competence which are independent of each other. Applicants have the option to undertake one or more units.

Trainees will be issued with Certificates of Competence for each unit of competence undertaken. Upon completion of all units a trainee will be awarded a national certificate. The certificates will be issued by Technical and Vocational Education Training Curriculum Development, Assessment & Certification Council (TVET CDACC).
