KPC’s mandate is to provide efficient, reliable, safe and cost effective means of transporting petroleum products from Mombasa to the hinterland. The products are volatile in nature and necessitate the establishment of tight systems that enhance health, safety and environmental concerns.
The Company is obligated to comply with local and international Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) laws and regulations and to continually improve performance through reviews and implementation of effective management systems consistent with emerging challenges. The current system integrates preventive, corrective and remotely reactive measures to curtail any emergency. The extensive devices installed within the KPC operation system attest to enhanced existing emergency preparedness.
KPC has in place a comprehensive HSE system, designs, policies, procedures, work instructions and authorization that incorporate fire detection, prevention and control systems both in fixed, mobile and portable units. An environment protection system which includes leak detection and containment devices to ensure that no product is lost into the environment is also in place.
Environmental protection and preservation embraces the concept of industry best practice restoration procedures. To live up to this responsibility, each employee is held responsible and accountable for their own health, safety performance and that of colleagues and others within the company’s premises. This is done through tailored HSE in-house and third party training, which all employees must undergo.
