KPC Dark Fibre Frequently Asked Questions

KPC offers dark fibre leasing and maintenance of the fibre optic cable network.
Dark fibre refers to unused or unlit optical fibre infrastructure that has been laid but is not actively transmitting data and is available for lease or purchase by other parties.

  • Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) License (NFP-T2 and/or ASP).
  • Approvals for the type of equipment to be used.
  • CR 12 not older than 1 month.
  • VAT Certificate.

  • Leased on a per-core or per-Km basis, with options for short-term or long-term contracts. Alternatively, it can be sold outright for exclusive use by the purchaser.

Considerations include assessing current and future bandwidth needs, evaluating network topology and geographic coverage, regulatory and compliance requirements, planning for equipment and installation costs, and assessing potential risks and challenges.

KPC pricing options are based on factors such as lease duration, geographic coverage and Service Level Agreements (SLAs) for uptime and performance.
  • Currently we charge USD 22 per kilometre per core.
  • Installation fees are one-off charge of USD 200 per site.
  • Rack space co-location flat rate of USD 850 per cabinet per year and a one-off installation charge of USD 3,900 per cabinet.

Payment is prepaid and done Quarterly (3 months) after contract sign off and signing of service order forms and service level agreement. KPC bills based on leased kilometres.

Contract terms can vary but often include details such as lease duration, pricing, service level agreements (SLAs) regarding uptime and performance. Contract durations are flexible depending on the client.
